Leavenworth to Ellensburg —58 mi, 93 km
Today we traveled from Leavenworth to Ellensburg, about 90 kilometers. There were two tops on the way, one just over 4000 feet, and another lower. Most of the way was through mountains with beautiful pine trees, and fast running streams.
Our group had to work this morning, preparing breakfast and loading the camping gear on the truck. We got up at 5 a.m., but left the campsite only at 9 a.m. Our leader asked volunteers to be the sweep team, the group that makes sure that all bikers get to the destination. The young people of the group volunteered, so we could leave and didn’t have to wait. We arrived at noon on the highest pass, and were at the next campsite at 3 p.m.

This town is kind of semi-desert. It is about 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 C) and there is a little wind. All the people are washing their clothes, because it dries so well here.
I have been biking today with Ed Gringhuis. Because he is the board member of an organization working in Haiti, we discussed development in Haiti during our trip.
Greetings from beautiful Washington State.
