Day 17 - Farm Visit (near Gooding) and Lunch & Canyon (Twin Falls)

Day 17 - Wednesday, July 16

Gooding to Burley —81 mi, 130 km

Today we rode from Gooding to Burley: 81 miles or 130 kilometers. It was the longest distance until now. The bike riding was not too bad, especially because we had a tail wind most of the time.

About 20 miles out of Gooding we visited a farm. The farmer has contacts with one of the organizations in the tour and he invited us to come to his farm. Of course, we got ice cold milk and we looked at the milking. He milks 1700 cows three times a day; so he has a carousel milk parlor with 50 places. I asked the farmer about the increasing prices for feed, but the price for milk has gone up too. I suggested that he use his manure to produce bio-gaz (methane). He said that he was discussing with two neighbors to build an installation for that.

At about 60 kilometers was the town of Twin Falls. The Reformed Church of Twin Falls had prepared a lunch for us. That was great – including ice cream and watermelon. Twin Falls is on this deep canyon from the Snake River. At Twin Falls the canyon is narrow and a bridge is over this.

Deep in the canyon is a green world because of the water there.

I have a cold, which bothers me during the night. During the day, it is not bad. I hope I am not going to get a fever. It is not easy for my body to heal with all this biking.
