Snowville to Willard —65 mi, 105 km
Today was the ride from Snowville to Willard. It was 65 miles, or just over 100 kilometers.
The environment is still desert. In the morning when we get up, it is cool (sometimes 12-15 degrees Celsius), but it heats up very quickly. I tried to get to Willard early to avoid being on the road in the hot afternoon. I arrived here before 2 p.m.
We first followed the highway for about 20 miles. Then we took a side road going through desert and salt water swamps. We passed an enormous company producing rockets. They seem to build rockets for NASA and probably for the army.
Later we passed a nice town, Brigham.
I saw a sign “Ogden 19 miles” and was thinking about Dave Gebben, who was an intern in Haiti. He was from this area in Utah. He was a bike fanatic; he even brought his bike to Haiti. This summer he is getting married, so he couldn’t be part of this tour. I hope you have a great wedding day, Dave and Sarah.
We are camping just south of Brigham in Willard Bay State Park on the Pelican Beach. It is very hot here and we don’t have a lot of shade. There is a kind of gazebo with a lot of picnic tables, where everybody sits behind their laptops. If we look to one side we see the mountains
and to the other side is the beach, where the rest of the group is floating in the water.
I feel good today and, hopefully, the cold is not getting worse. Thanks for your prayers.
