Day 26 - My Muscles and Joints Ached

Day 26 - Friday, July 25

Kremmling to Winter Park —35 mi, 55 km

Today was a short ride and I was so glad for that. Even in this 34 mile ride from Kremmling to Winter Park, I felt tired and my muscles and joints ached. It's no wonder, after 4 heavy days with climbs and long distances.

The ride basically went through the valley of the Colorado river. We followed it upstream and went through a beautiful canyon, where we also met a few other bikers.

The US 40 goes through some small towns – Sulphur Springs and Winter Park. The place where we are staying is Snow Mountain Ranch, a YMCA center, also a ski resort in the winter. Even now we can see snow patches on the mountains.

We are all tired and looking forward to Denver. Other bikers are obviously feeling tired, too, after riding in here at the Snow Mountain Ranch.

Some of the problems are the high altitude here where the amount of oxygen is lower. Tomorrow, we have to climb another 3,000 feet, but then it is all downhill to Denver. I hope to stay Saturday/Sunday with our son, Leon, and his wife, Crystal, in Colorado Springs.
