Day 33 - Halfway to Jersey City!

Day 33 - Friday, August 1

Minden to York —94 mi, 151 km

We are halfway through the tour. Yesterday we were halfway in time, but this morning, after 18 miles of biking, we were halfway between Seattle and Jersey City in terms of distance. Last night, we got ice cream with strawberries to celebrate the half point!

Today the biking was not so easy. The wind was coming from the east, so nearly the whole day we were fighting this wind. We left late, because we were still on duty, which means that our group not only helps with serving breakfast (need to be present at 5:30 a.m.), but also with loading the gear truck before we can leave. About 9 a.m. I left with a group. This group had several strong bikers and we managed to ride about 25 km/hour even with the headwind, by taking turns on pulling, while the rest was drafting behind the leader.

I forgot my camera and left it in my bag, so I couldn't take any pictures along the road. Anyways, the surroundings are still the same: lots of corn and soya fields and every 5 miles a big silo along the railroad.

I am including a picture of one of the young bikers who has nice jerseys from a Dutch biking team. One of the girls is showing off her Rabobank jersey.

Another long and tiring day. On top of that I had 3 flat tires in one day. I am getting good at changing a tire, but still it is frustrating when you can't find the cause of these flats.

This week has the maximum amount of miles per week: 553 miles (about 885 kilometers). We sure are glad that there is a day that God had set apart to rest.
