Day 53 - "It took quite some time because there was so much food."

Day 53 - Thursday, August 21

Chatham to London —75 mi, 121 km

The night was not as cold as the previous one. This morning I was part of the sweep team, so we had to help serve breakfast and later load the gear truck. We left about 9 a.m. The wind was not very good – we were traveling more or less northeast and the wind came from the southeast, a serious crosswind. Ontario has many trees, both in the form of small planted forests and in the form of windbreakers. The result was that we often did not feel the wind as we would have felt it in a state as Nebraska. Also, the corn, that is high here, helped to protect us a bit.

We only stopped at the SAG wagons, which were about every 25 kilometers. Most of the time we saw corn and soybeans on both sides of the road, as we have seen in many other states. We did see some tobacco.

We kept on going until we came to Mount Brydges...

...where members of the Hope Community CRC had prepared a lunch for us. It took quite some time because there was so much food. At about 2:00 p.m. we continued our journey to London.

London was, of course, named after the capital of England. It is a relatively big city in Ontario, with a small river in the middle, that they, of course, have named Thames.

We were biking along the Thames on a bike path and met a welcome committee from the local CRC.

As soon as I got to the campsite (the Christian High School) I met Francien Hoving. She came to Haiti years ago and now lives with her husband on a farm in Mount Elgin. I have the privilege of staying with them for the night.
